DotRUN were were recently thrilled to find footage on You tube of the young competition winners who participated in the “Heroes at Home” waste reduction campaign. For this campaign dotRUN designed a promotional leaflet aimed squarely at youngsters with added participation from their parents.
Emily Dodd, education officer for Changeworks gave away 13 bikes for “Heroes at Home” project which is part of the “Waste free Edinburgh” campaign which tries to get householders to reduce their waste by 10%.
“Heroes at Home” encourages and educates children with regards household waste so that the whole family becomes involved. The youngsters from schools and nurseries across south Edinburgh each received a bike of their choice after decorating a cut-out “Hero” mask within the leaflet and getting their parents to fill out the feedback form on reducing waste.
Storytelling sessions, workshops and assemblies were run by Changeworks’ waste education service in 14 schools and nurseries. They encouraged pupils to involve their families in activities to reduce waste at home.
It’s great for Designers on the Run to be able to see the outcome of this particular project via You Tube, aimed at educating and encouraging youngsters to reduce waste within their own household. It also goes to show that you’re never too young to learn to be a waste free hero!
