During the months of May and June 2007 the six cities of Scotland - Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Stirling - hosted the country’s first nationwide international design festival. With over 300 exhibitions, lectures, workshops and events and an audience of over 300,000 people attending, the festival sought to celebrate and promote the vibrancy and vitality of the Scottish design industry.
The Six Cities Design Festival in Edinburgh was to showcase design in a work and play scenario. Designers on the Run were approached by Metamorph, along with Newhaven and Spring Corp to collaborate on Urban Journeys, an experiential and interactive design tour through the Old and New town of Edinburgh.
Logo design for Urban Journeys
Urban Journeys, which was to be launched as an event during the Festival would make use of a tour map/guide and an accompanying downloadable podcasts. Included in the podcast were Edinburgh spokespeople like Malcom Fraser, Riccardo Marini and Richard Jobson waxing lyrical about their favourite Edinburgh design experiences, places and objects. Designers on the Run helped conceptualise the tour along with the logo design and promotional leaflet - which was printed on partially recycled, chlorine-free paper.
